🚀 TRANSCENDENT 2 🚀
heeeey!

a bit earlier than expected, but no less as awesome as it should be.

I made some color changes compared to the sketch and added some of the elements of the previous cover to make it more in line style-wise.

I'm pretty happy with the end result!

there's some notes under the images
I think it really pops and is pretty different but the same compared to the previous cover.

the only thing i'm not a fan of are the pupils in the smoke-being's eyes, it makes it look too cartoony/goofy.

I especially like the bright yellow pink and green, I think it's a nice addition since the rest of the cover is pretty blue-ish (since the kids wear blue track suits).

and here's the back:
pretty basic. I don't really have anything to add here.

and here's the whole thing without the text, so you can mess around with it!

hey hey hey!

here's a new version of the sketch! and a rough one for the back of the book.

just a general note about the readability (especially of the characters):
Don't worry, it looks a bit shabby now but that's something I will totally fix while actually rendering the image. I'm pretty obsessed with readability so no worries there :)

2 versions of the front, the only thing that's different is the color of the rocket clouds. I really prefer the one on the right, the image is busy enough as it is already it also breaks up all the scenes nicely.

I had to make the characters significantly larger to make the guy leap out of the frame, but I think it works pretty well! so good call.

the smoke/mist monster: having it fade out or be too misty was really throwing off the whole balance of the composition, especially since we also need to show what's behind the monster (which is more smoke from the rocket) so I think this is the best I can do regarding formless smoke entities.

I also made the bottom bit less jagged and more smokey, which I think suits the image really well.

the back is pretty basic, but here it is:
I tried your suggestion, having her going from the right to the lower part of the left, but she would cover up too much of the text box, or be so tiny that she wasn't really worth drawing.

I think this works rather well though.

I can make her smaller/move her down a bit, so she doesn't overlap the text-box too much, but not much smaller than this.

and here are both front images without the added text:

hey hey hey!

just one sketch this time since the composition will stay the same as the previous book.

I agree with what you said to not flip the angle of the title/action, so that this book wont stick out compared to 1 and 3.

even though the basic composition is the same I think I changed it up enough so that it's clear it's a different book.

there are some notes under the image.
Instead of the orange dust/smoke bits on book one I thought we could go with a more cyber futuristic design element, while still keeping everything dynamic. it also ties in nicely with the grid on the back of book 1.

to keep some of the yellow in there I thought it would be cool to have the rocket lifting off and have a bunch of yellow smoke/explosion/ignition there.

so I'm pretty sure we'll have to go back and forth on the dark entity a bit, since it's pretty difficult to draw an entity that's not described in the book. It does look cool though.

I also flipped the kids around at the top part of the image to set it a bit apart from book 1. I'm not too sure if I like them wearing visors, makes everything a little bit too sci-fi for my tastes (but maybe the book is pretty sci-fi, which in that case: it works)

oh and the text color is just me throwing the hue slider around, feel free to change it to anything you think works better :)

here are the covers next to each other, so it's easier to compare:
note: I'll make sire everything lines up nicely on both covers when I start rendering everything
and here is the cover sans text, in case you already want to have a go at it
thats it for now!
